In alignment with International Women’s Day, we held a mimosa decoration display and a workshop repurposing the decoration materials at the Salesforce Tokyo office.

For the 20-day decoration period, we installed a combination of brilliantly blooming mimosa cuttings and rooted mimosa trees that transitioned from buds to full bloom. While it is generally difficult to get rooted mimosa to bloom in an indoor office environment, we succeeded by providing specialized care in conjunction with our regular maintenance of the permanent office greenery at the Tokyo office. This allowed the employees to enjoy the blossoming flowers throughout the period. Additionally, non-plant materials such as decorative wheels and pot covers were reused from previous events to minimize waste.

In typical floral displays, many flowers and plants—including those that are still beautiful—are discarded once the exhibition period ends. To address this issue, the Tokyo office implemented an initiative to reuse materials for multiple purposes and extend their lifecycle, thereby minimizing waste.

The rooted mimosa trees used in the display were taken back by GREEN WISE, where they are being cared for daily so they can bloom again next year. Furthermore, the mimosa cuttings that dried naturally during the display were repurposed for a workshop where employees created herbariums and message cards. Nineteen employees participated, enjoying the hands-on experience of working with plants to create their own unique pieces.

This project not only significantly reduced waste from the floral decorations but also provided an opportunity for employees to experience Salesforce’s corporate culture of sustainability and respect for diversity in an engaging way.
