Kankyō Records Showcase vol.3 feat. DAUW at GREEN WISE

GREEN WISE explored new possibilities for spaces where nature and people coexist by producing an experiential environment that made use of its office and greenhouse facilities.
Blending multiple elements – music, light, plants, installation, and food – the space offered a multi-sensory experience that allowed visitors to feel deeply connected with nature through all five senses.

At the heart of this initiative was ‘Kankyō Records Showcase vol.3 feat. DAUW at GREEN WISE’, an ambient music showcase created in collaboration with the record store and label Kankyō Records.
Utilising the greenhouse, approach area, and office spaces, the event featured sound installations based on plant bioelectric signals, the artwork ‘Kukido’, mentioned later in this blog, and lighting effects crafted from repurposed wisteria vines – transforming the entire space into a single, immersive installation.

On the day, a showcase was held in GREEN WISE’s greenhouse, featuring four live performances by three artists from the Belgian ambient music label Dauw (Adriaan de Roover, Dudal, Fumitake Tamura) together with H. Takahashi of Kankyō Records, as well as a DJ set by three DJs including GREEN WISE’s Nomizo. The glass-walled greenhouse, an otherworldly space beyond everyday life, offered a new type of immersive experience envisioned by GREEN WISE, where greenery, light, sound, and food combined to engage all the senses.

In the greenhouse, a sound system by ADAM Audio, a brand from Berlin, Germany, was used to deliver exceptionally high-resolution and detailed sound. Lighting design was handled by Yasushi Harada, a video artist and lighting designer.

This one-day-only space, named ‘GREEN WISE Slow Green Studio’, was designed not only to fulfil the usual function of a greenhouse – storing and nurturing plants – but also as a multi-sensory experience where visitors could engage with sound, light, food and drink.

By utilising the bioelectrical potentials of plants – their real-time responses to the surrounding environment – the ever-changing sound installation incorporated the resonance of planters made by Atelier Vierkant, a Belgian ceramic manufacturer represented by Green Wise, as part of its sound sources in collaboration with participating artists.

In a work themed around ’circulation’, light and shadow were used to express the vortex of life and the cycle of life by reusing pruned wisteria branches that had once been used for a different purpose.

An installation titled ‘Kukido’, themed around ‘the natural form of flowers’, was also exhibited, in which plants stood entirely on their own, supported only by their natural strength.

Green Wise has been exploring ways to create spaces where people can live in harmony with nature. This project served as a prototype to explore new spatial possibilities in which humans and nature coexist – not only through plants and natural materials but also through multi-sensory experiences involving sound, light, and food.

For Kankyō Records, too, this collaboration with the spatial concepts proposed by Green Wise became a prototype for exploring new possibilities in how ambient music can be experienced.

Going forward, we will continue to deepen our approach to designing spaces and experiences that embody the coexistence of nature and people.
